The Southwest Missouri Council of Governments (SMCOG) will be holding six public hearings throughout the region to discuss the organization’s submission of applications for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Mitigation (MIT) program to assist areas impacted by the 2017 disasters (DR-4317).

SMCOG is interested in obtaining all citizens' input on community development needs within the area. Citizens will have the opportunity to discuss the impact of the proposed projects on the environment and the environment’s possible impact on the projects. SMCOG needs as much local participation as possible in order to reflect the true desires of the community as a whole, as well as the comments relating to the proposed project applications. The State has established a maximum application request for each funding category – planning grants can be no more than $150,000; capacity building grants can be no more than $200,000. Planning and capacity building applications are presumed to meet the 51% LMI national objective. No displacement of persons will be proposed.

The proposed projects include the development of plans, reports, and capacity building. These include an Emergency Response Plan for the City of Aurora (estimated at $50,000), a comprehensive plan for the City of Branson (estimated at $60,000), a stormwater preliminary engineering report for the Village of Bull Creek (estimated at $50,000), a stormwater management plan for the Village of Indian Point (estimated at $50,000), and staff augmentation for two SMCOG positions: one grant writer/administrator (estimated at $100,000) and one associate planner (estimated at $100,000). All citizens are encouraged to attend in order to comment on the proposed activities.
